The Mangrove hummingbird, Costa Rica’s endangered and endemic treasure is in danger of disappearing. As the Pacific coastal mangroves that it depends on for survival disappear, it is thought that there are less than 10,000 of them remaining in the wild. After many years of searching, we were lucky to find this one in a friend’s back yard. The female can be seen on the top left and the male, with his iridescent green and blue plumage, in on the bottom right.
